• This is the third and final installment in the "death" trilogy. This is third movie in which director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga collaborated on movies revolving around a death theme. The other films being Amores Perros and 21 Grams.
• Brad Pitt gave up a role in The Departed, although he stayed on as a producer, in order to star in this film.
• Each of the stories were shot completely separate from one another, as a result many of the actors from the different stories did not actually meet one another until the movie's premiere.
• Actresss Adrianna Barazza gained 35 pounds for her role in this film.
