TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• This film was based off of the book The Lost Moon by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger.
• In a matter of 13 days, the cast and crew flew somewhere between 500 and 600 parabolic arcs in Nasa's KC-135 plane to achieve weightlessness. Each of the arcs allowed only 23 seconds of filmable weightlessness which presented a lot of difficulty in achieving all of the desired shots.
• John Cusack was offered the role of Fred Haise but turned down, as a result the role was offered to Bill Paxton.
• The real Jim Lovell has a cameo in this film as the captain of the U.S.S Iwo Jima and can be seen in his actual old captain's uniform. In the original script however, the role was written to be an admiral, but when Howard asked him to play the role, Lovell said that since he retired as a captain he would only play the role of captain.
