This movie is based on the book of the same name written
by Dan Brown. Although the book actually takes place before The Da Vinci
Code, the timeline was altered for the film in order to make it seem
like a sequel to The Da Vinci Code.
-
Tom Hanks personally asked Leonardo DiCaprio to play the
role of The Camelengo, however he still turned the role down. When the
role was given to Ewan McGregor they changed the character's name to Camelengon
Patrick McKenna to reflect McGregor's accent and facial features which
are obviously not Italian.

This movie's release was delayed by more than a year as a
result of the 2007 writers guild strike. The film's writer Akiva Goldsman
was barred from working the rewrites until the strike was lifted. When
it was finally lifted Tom Hanks instead hired David Koepp to come back
and work on the film's rewrites.
