• Paul Weitz, who wrote and directed the film, claims that he wrote the first draft of the screenplay before ever seeing an episode of the TV show American Idol that most people site as the inspiration of the film.
• All of the scenes that take place inside of the White House were filmed on the set of The West Wing.
• The contestant who sings the rock song in this film is played by Trey Parker, but don't be fooled, it is not the infamous South Park creator, but an unknown actor with the same name.
