This movie is based on both Alice's Adventures In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass, both written by Lewis Carroll.
Mia Wasikowska who won the part of Alice was up against some stiff competition for the part, including Amanda Seyfried and Lindsay Lohan. According to Tim Burton, he selected her because of her "gravity".
To date this is the most successful Tim Burton film in terms of box office receipts.
