TRIVIA TO IMPRESS YOUR EASILY IMPRESSED FRIENDS

• Stanley Kubrick worked on this project for more than 12 years up until the time of his death. One of the reasons it took Kubrick so long was that he wanted to wait for the actual technology that would allow him to have a real android play the role of David. By the time he had died, he had already storyboarded the entire film and he asked Steven Spielberg to take over the project as director saying it was "closer to his sensibilities" anyway.
• Haley Joel Osment had made the suggestion to Steven Spielberg that his android character should not blink, Spielberg liked the idea so much he decided that none of the androids in the movie should blink.
• While this movie is credited as being based on the short story Supertoys Last All Summer Long by Brian Aldiss, a large number of things were also taken from the poem The Stolen Child by William Butler Yeats.
• In the future depicted in this movie Manhattan is seen completely underwater. Sticking above the water are the World Trade Center buildings. Less then 3 months after the release of this movie the buildings were destroyed in the September 11th terrorist attacks. While many films and TV shows edited the buildings out, the buildings remained intact for the DVD release.
