WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Hugh Grant (Notting Hill,
Bridget Jones's Diary) is simply brilliant in this comedy hit the
critics are hailing as "Hilarious!" (Premiere) Will Lightman (Grant)
is a good-looking, smooth-talking bachelor whose primary goal in life is
avoiding any kind of responsibility. But when he invents an imaginary son
in order to meet attractive single moms, Will get a hilarious lesson about
life from a bright, but hopelessly geeky 12-year-old named Marcus. Now,
as Will struggles to teach Marcus the art of being cool, Marcus teaches
Will that you're never to old to grow up. About A Boy is the irresistible
comedy smash that Richard Schickel of TIME Magazine says is "Smart,
funny and winsome."

-
This movie is based on the book of the same name written
by Nick Hornby.
-
The title of this film is a play on the title of the Nirvana
song About A Girl. In the book the band Nirvana plays an important
role, it inspires Marcus to come out of shell after the attempted suicide
of his mother, only to be devastated to learn about Kurt Cobain's successful
suicide later. This plot point was cut from the film, however the name
of movie was left unchanged.
-
Brad Pitt was offered the lead role in this film, however
he turned down the role because he couldn't understand why if the main
character was supposed to be handsome and charming he would resort to pretending
to be a single father just so he could pick up single mothers.
