WHAT THE STUDIO WANTS YOU TO KNOW
DESCRIPTION:
Josh Hartnett (The Black
Dahlia, Pearl Harbor) crosses over to the dark side in this
bone-chilling adaptation of the cult-hit graphic novel, brought to the
screen in all its demonic glory.
In a small Alaskan town, thirty days
of night is a natural phenomenon. Very few outsiders visit, until a band
of bloodthirsty, deathly pale vampires mark their arrival by savagly attacking
sledge dogs. But soon they find there are much more satisfying thirst quenchers
about: human beings. One by one, the townspeople succumb to a living nightmare,
but a small group survives - at least for now. The vampires use the dark
to their advantage, and surviving this cold hell is a game of cat and mouse...
and screams.

-
Steve Niles had originally pitched this story as movie and
was turned down by the studios. As a result he adapted the screenplay into
a graphic novel along with Ben Templesmith. He was then later approached
to have the graphic novel turned back into a film, he agreed and worked
on readapting the novel back into a script.
-
Despite the film's name, most of the scenes were shot during
the day time and were digitally made over so it looked like it was night.
Additionally this was filmed in New Zealand, not Alaska as portrayed in
the story.
-
Sam Raimi originally wanted to direct this film, however
at some point in the early production he decided he would rather produce
instead and handed over the reigns to David Slade.
