This movie is based off of the short story of the same name by Stephen King. However the story itself was originally intended to be a writing exercise for his non-fiction book On Writing. However once he started writing the story he became too interested in the story to leave it unfinished.
Before the role of Lily was given to Mary McCormick, the role was won by Kate Walsh, however she was forced to give up the role due to scheduling conflicts with the TV series Grey's Anatomy.
